Ms. Comfort Colors 2012

BlueStacks just announced Ms. Mac 2012 and she is lovely. “The typical Mac user is a freckled woman in a T-shirt and jeans.” Here she is:

Ms.Mac-2012

She shares many characteristics with Ms. Comfort Colors 2012. She is educated and has a penchant for jeans and Tees. Though we tend to stick to comfortable cotton fabrics and do not have an app, we do have a pretty good idea of the identity of Ms. Comfort Colors this year.

A little bird shared with us some of her qualities:

Ms. Comfort Colors 2012

ms comfort colors

  • She is comfortable with who she is
  • She does not need to fit in, though she can when she feels like it
  • She is a terrific college student
  • She is fit (though she should go easy on the Icy-Hot)
  • She is conscientious
  • She is loyal
  • She is fashionable when she wants to be

Please note Mr. Comfort Colors 2012 is somewhat harder to track down…We are convinced that he is very like Mr. Saturday Night.

Doing good in the world – with Cotton and Barry Chouinard

Cotton_MatherRecent tragedies have brought us together as a nation – even if only to argue about guns and schools. But as we honor and cherish the children lost in Newtown last week, we’d like to take a moment to encourage you to look for and work for the good in your own community – that’s where doing good in the world starts.

Philanthropy and charitable giving are our national heritage. Benjamin Franklin is often thought of as the progenitor of modern philanthropy in the United States. In truth he was perhaps the founding nephew; he took his inspiration from Cotton Mather, the true father of modern philanthropy. (At Comfort Colors, we appreciate the significance of his first name.)

Cotton Mather (1663-1728) was a very cool guy. He graduated from Harvard in 1678 at age 15 and advocated philanthropy as a way of life. He published a widely read American classic, Essays to Do Good in 1710.

Barry ChouinardFranklin wrote to Cotton Mather’s son:  “When I was a boy, I met with a book, entitled Essays to Do Good, which I think was written by your father. It…gave me such a turn of thinking, as to have an influence on my conduct through life; for I have always set a greater value on the character of a doer of good, than on any other kind of reputation; and if I have been, as you seem to think, a useful citizen, the public owes the advantage of it to that book” (Franklin 1961, 197-8 – http://www.hks.harvard.edu).

At Comfort Colors, our founder Barry Chouinard is very active in his contributions to the communities here in Vermont and in Massachusetts. He inspires us to take action wherever and whenever we can. As a company, we support many charitable causes and encourage you to do the same.

This holiday season, take a tip from your Founding Father and give generously.

Happy Holidays!

What Color is Your Holiday? Let’s make it comfortable

Holiday shopping has got many of us spending green and seeing red, but the colors of the holidays have much more meaning than dollars, bank balances and traffic lights. Let’s take a look.

The colors of Hanukkah are blue and white. According to Wiki.answers.com, “There are no traditional colors for Hanukkah. Because of influence by Christmas (namely the fact the Christmas has traditional colors), Jewish people took the colors of the Israeli Flag (blue and white) and made them Hanukkah colors. But this practice is only about 40 years old.” Other sources say that blue and white are the colors of a Tallit (prayer shawl), and the Israeli flag, which symbolizes a Star of David on a Tallit. “Blue is to remind us of the sky, and God in heaven.”

According to Bing Crosby, the color of Christmas is white, but most of us recognize red and green as the holiday’s official colors. There are several radically differing opinions about this color combo: One source says that green represents eternal life and red represents the blood of Christ; another source sites the red mushrooms that grow under pine trees this time of year “The Amanita muscaria is the red and white magic mushroom that grows almost exclusively beneath Pine trees. One of the active substances in the hallucinogenic mushroom is DMT, an entheogen naturally produced in the brain’s pineal gland.” (ericdubay.hubpages.com) No wonder Santa looks so happy.

Many early Christians were originally pagans who celebrated Yule. “When they started celebrating Christmas they wanted to bring some of their old, beloved customs into the new holiday; among them were the Yule log and the Yule colors red, green, silver and gold.” (again, wiki.answers.com)

The colors of Kwanzaa, a week-long celebration of African-American culture and history, are green, black and red. “Green is for the fertile land of Africa; black is for the color of the people; and red is the for the blood that is shed in the struggle for freedom.” (www.infoplease.com)

At Comfort Colors, the holidays come in many colors, we just make sure to keep them comfortable.

Happy Holidays!

Fashion Alert: Color Trends are already in for 2014!

For those of us who just woke up and realized that Hanukkah starts in a few days and Christmas is only a few weeks away, it is hard to imagine what colors will be in style more than a year from now. Not so the chemical colorists at Comfort Colors. These guys have taken color planning beyond the Google Calendar and iPhone alarm into the realm of crystal ball gazing….

While the staff at Comfort Colors does not decide what the color trends will be in future years, they do keep their ears to the ground and their eyes, well, gazing ahead to wonderful colors. The future looks delicious.

Fashion Snoops has already presented the Top 5 Fashion Colors of the Season (that season being Spring 2014), among them are some of my favorite foods: Nutella, tangelo and olive for men; cherry red, tangerine, peach and peachy nude for women. Ooh la la. Here’s a glimpse of the future from http://www.magiconline.com:

Here are the lads in Nutella:

And the ladies in peachy nude:

But don’t get too comfortable. We are not all earth tones and pastels for 2014. Check out Cerulean (tangerine is also spectacular):

I wish they’d smile more, but these great colors will kick me into action so I can get started with my holiday shopping…
